21 November 2023: Following review by the Nominations and Governance Committee on 9 November, 2023, the policy review date has been extended to 21 November 2026. 25 March 2021: Faculty changed to College throughout. Approved as administrative amendment, University Secretary. 16 July 2020: Definition of “award” updated. Administrative amendment. This is the first version of this document to be published in the new UON Policy Library. For all intents and purposes, this version is reflective of the version that was approved, published and in effect at the time the new Policy Library was launched. In migrating the document to the new Policy Library it was subjected to reformatting, including the application of a new numbering system. The following information details the history of changes to the document prior to its publication in the new UON Policy Library: 20/3/2018 – Administrative amendment to reflect Nominations and Legislation Committee name change to Nominations and Governance Committee and to update reference to By-law. 20/3/2017 - Amendment to provide for circumstances where the nominated person holds an academic appointment of special distinction prior to retirement. 26/10/2016 - Updated version approved by the Nominations and Legislation Committee. Policy title amended. The “Guidelines for the Preparation and Assessment of Nominations for the Award of the Title Professor Emeritus” (previously an attachment to the nomination form) have been incorporated into the body of the policy, and the authority of the Vice-Chancellor in relation to other academic titles has been clarified. 22/7/2015 - Administrative amendment to implement Council resolution C15:028 in relation to the authority of the Nominations and Legislation Committee and to reformat. Policy was previously numbered 000597. 9/7/2015 - Administrative amendment to update policy owner and contact 23/5/2014 - Administrative amendment by the University Secretary to implement Council resolution C14:133 in relation to the authority of the Nominations and Legislation Committee. 29/8/2008 - Originally approved by the Council as the “Courtesy Titles Policy”Professor Emeritus and Other Courtesy Titles Policy
