Summary of Changes from Previous Version

This version was current at the time the migration to the the new policy library commenced, however it expired prior to the library being launched. As the document had already been converted it has been left in the history for ease of access. In migrating the document to the new Policy Library it was subjected to reformatting, including the application of a new numbering system.


Various minor edits have been made in the 2018 edition with significant amendments listed below. Please note the clause numbers refer to the document published in the previous policy library. Contact policy@newcastle.edu.au for further clarification. 


Relevant Definitions – The Policy team in Assurance Services is leading a glossary project, in the event that the glossary is approved and published the Relevant Definitions will be removed from the Admission and Enrolment Procedure Manual


Clause 1 – Statement inserted at request of Office of PVCLT as a result of review of Disability Policy.


Clause 1.1.3 - Amended to specify exclusion of Bachelor of Nursing from this clause, included as part of Admissions transparency.


Clause 1.1.4 – New clause to specify inclusion of TAFE/VET Certificate II in conjunction with additional performance based selection for the Bachelor of Music and associated combined degrees.


Clause 1.1.11 - Addition of clause to state maximum number of bonus points, included as part of Admissions transparency.


Clause 1.4 - Addition of further information about requirement for Admissions staff to declare conflict of interests on an annual basis.


Clause 2.1 - Amended to add additional clarity to process.


Clause 3.2 Table 1 - Amendments as requested by relevant Faculty.


Clause 3.4 Table 2 - Updated to include remove teach out program, add new programs and amendments as requested by relevant Faculty.


Clause 4 – Increase to the number of Regional and Rural Bonus Points available.


Clause 4.2.2 - Addition of link to information about postcode included in the Regional and Rural Bonus Points Scheme.


Clause 5 - Wholesale amendments made to reflect current process and correct terminology.


Former section 6 – Entire section 6 Burran Program deleted following advice from the Wollotuka Institute that this is no longer a current admission pathway. Subsequent clauses renumbered.


Clause 7.1.2 - Additional information added to clarify arrangements


Former section 10 - Entire section 10 Bachelor of Music Special Admission Scheme deleted. This section was admission requirements which is covered under Clause 1.1.8 (vii), not a separate admission scheme. Subsequent clauses renumbered.


Clause 9 - Subject Bonus Special Admissions Scheme renamed Subject Performance Scheme.


Clause 9.1.2 - Clause amended at the request of Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment to extend the Subject Performance Scheme to student who have completed Year 12 in Australia in the two years prior to their intended year of admission to the University of Newcastle for admission to programs offered by the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment.


Clause 9.1.3 - Information added to indicate that participating programs will be list in Appendix 1.


Clause 10.1 - Removed as it duplicates the eligibility requirements for CSP students.


Clause 10.3 - New Clause to list participating programs.


Clause 11.1 - Updated to include remove teach out program, add new programs and amendments as requested by relevant Faculty.


Clause 12.2 - Updated to include participating programs.


Clause 14.1.2 - Clause amended to reduce the standard full-time load for a summer or a winter term from 20 units to 10 units.


Clause 15.3.2.3 - Updated to include new programs.


Clause 16.1 and 16.2 - Updated to indicate change of authority to approve non-award enrolment.


Clause 17 – Additional information added to clarify arrangements.


Clause 17.2 – Remove Graduate Diploma of Psychology as this program is now in teach out.


Clause 17.2 - New point inserted to include enabling programs on the list of programs excluded from deferment of admission.


Clause 17.3.7 - New clause inserted to clarify possible restriction on second year deferment.


Clause 18.2 – Amended clause to reflect current terminology.


Clause 18.3 Table 4 - Updated to include amendments as requested by relevant Faculty.


Clause 19.2 Table 5 - Updated to include additional programs now in teach out and remove programs that have no further students.
