Summary of Changes from Previous Version

8 April 2024:  Reference to Staff Code of Conduct added.  Approved by University Secretary as administrative amendment.


22 March 2021:  Definition “University Business” amended.  Approved as administrative amendment by University Secretary.


The Code for the Protection of Freedom of Speech and Academic Freedom was developed in consideration of the Model Code for the Protection of Freedom of Speech and Academic Freedom in Australian Higher Education Providers, commissioned by the Minister for Education in 2018; as well as the context of the University of Newcastle and an appropriate assessment of risks.
