Summary of Changes from Previous Version

23 January 2019 – Name of Rule in Policy Library changed from “Constitution of the Academic Senate Rule” to “Interim Constitution of the Academic Senate Rule” to reflect content contained in Clause 1 of the Rule.


This is the first version of this document to be published in the new UON Policy Library. For all intents and purposes, this version is reflective of the version that was approved, published and in effect at the time the new Policy Library was launched. In migrating the document to the new Policy Library it was subjected to reformatting, including the application of a new numbering system. The following information details the history of changes to the document prior to its publication in the new UON Policy Library: 22 September, 2017 - Amendments to Clauses 3, 4.2,5 to 7, 8.1 to 8.4, 9.1 to 9.8, and 10 to 11, to note the content is now contained in the Governance Rule and the University of Newcastle By-Law 2017 [Council Resolution C17:120] Administrative change - corrections to Policy Contact, last amendment date, and review date (to align with 2017 Council schedule). 29.08.2017 Administrative change - membership title amended to reflect the organisational restructure of Wollotuka Institute. 12.01.2017 Administrative change - Policy Owner amended from Academic Registrar to University Secretary to reflect organisational structure changes 1 January 2013. 02.07.2015 Administrative change - Policy Contact amened from Deputy Academic Registrar, Academic Administration to Associate Director, Council and Records Governance to reflect organisational structure changes 1 January 2013. 02.07.2015 Minor edits made to hyperlinks - 9 October 2014 Ex-officio member Pro Vice-Chancellor (Central Coast Campus) rescinded by Council Resolution C13:162) 23 August 2013. Amendments to elections (Clause 3.1) and membership (Clause 5.1) approved by Council (Resolution C13:162) (Doc AS13:068 - Attachment 1), for immediate implementation, 23 August 2013. Amendments to the procedure for the election of Deputy Presidents of Academic Senate (Section 9), approved by Council 25 May 2012. 19 August 2011 The Council approved the amendments to Clauses 3 and 7 of the Interim Constitution of the Academic Senate [000402].
