Summary of Changes from Previous Version

This version was current at the time the migration to the the new policy library commenced, however it expired prior to the library being launched. As the document had already been converted it has been left in the history for ease of access. In migrating the document to the new Policy Library it was subjected to reformatting, including the application of a new numbering system.


The following information details the history of changes to the document prior to its inclusion in the new UON Policy Library:


Various minor edits have been made in the 2018 edition with significant amendments listed below. Please note the clause numbers refer to the document published in the previous policy library. Contact policy@newcastle.edu.au for further clarification. 


Relevant Definitions – The Policy team in Assurance Services is leading a glossary project. In the event that the glossary is approved and published the Relevant Definitions will be removed from the Courses and Assessment Procedure Manual.


Various clauses – Remove AIP – Academic Integration Plan and replace with Reasonable Adjustments Plan.


Various clauses - Remove Disability Support Services and replace with AccessAbility Support Services.


Authorising Policy - Point 2.6 – Amended to include additional reasoning behind the requirement for clear identification of undergraduate courses re-badged as postgraduate courses.


Clause 2.1.2 - Clause amended to strengthen statement relating to cross faculty consultation.


Clause 3 - Clause wording simplified.


Clause 4.1.1 - Remove ‘external experts’ as possible quality assurance reviewers for new courses.


Clause 12.3 - Addition of requirement for staff to identify conflict of interest to their line manager as soon as possible.


Clause 16.3.3 - Amendment to clarify requirement for moderation of assessments marked by a single marker.


Clause 18.3.4 - Amended to remove the requirement that Course Coordinators notify students about use of memory aides in examinations, this information will be included in the course outline.


Clause 18.3.4 - Subclauses formatted for consistency and minor amendment to embed description of a memory aide.


Clause 18.3.6 - Clarification of requirements relating to mobile phones or other devices in exam room.


Clauses 18.3.7, 18.3.8 - Terminology changed from ‘aid’ to ‘support item’.


Clause 18.3.9 - Amended to permit Law dictionaries to be utilised in open book Law examinations.


Clause 18.4.2 - New clause to specify that Reasonable Adjustments Plans may specify changes to examinations processes or conditions.


Clause 18.5.1 (iii) - Addition of statement that the examinations requirements must be consistent with the information provided in the course outline. 18.5.2 Replaced ‘Board of Studies’ with ‘NSW Education Standards Authority’. Added additional information relating to scientific calculators.


Clause 19.4 - Table 2 Removed ‘honours courses’ from the description of those courses that can utilise ‘NA” administrative codes given that the Honours Policy was changed in 2015 to require progressive marks for Honours courses.
