How do I change my name with the University?
Updated 05/04/2024 11.27 AMChanging your official name:
If you have changed your name or find that your name is incorrect on any of your University documentation, you will need to complete an online Change of Details Form via the AskUON portal. You must submit the form along with appropriate documentation in order to have your record changed. Please ensure you read carefully through the online application form for full details of what is required when submitting.
Students who are graduating should note that your name will appear on your testamur and in the Graduation Booklet exactly as it appears on your invitation letter. The testamur is a legal document and as such we can only print names that are your legal titles. It must be the same name as your other official documents (i.e. birth certificate, passport, etc.). We will not print nicknames, shortened, preferred or diminutive forms of your name, or initials.
If you are a past student and cannot access the online Change of Details Form, please complete the PDF version of this form that doesn't require you to login.
- can reflect and express your gender, culture and social identity
- can be changed at any time
Selecting a preferred first name does not change your official/legal name on UON records. Your preferred name will be used where possible in the course of University business however there are places where the official/legal name will continue to be used for relevant business, legal or reporting purposes.
