Academic Promotions
Academic staff can apply for a promotion through the Academic Promotion process that will take place annually, for promotion to all academic levels.
Applications for Academic Promotions in 2024 will open on Monday 13 May 2024 and close on COB Monday 8 July 2024.
Independent Assessors will be contacted on 22 July 2024 and requested to return their report by COB Monday 19 August 2024.

Candidates are encouraged to refer to the Academic Promotion Policy and Procedure documents prior to commencing their application.
The Application Form (PDF 950KB) covers the essential information relating to the candidate’s employment, Leadership Statement, discipline norms and the nomination of external independent assessors.
The Academic Portfolio is intended to provide Committees with a portfolio that outlines activities and achievements in each of the three areas of: Teaching, Research, (including the Scholarship of Teaching), and Engagement and Leadership. The Academic Promotions Portfolio Development Guide provides candidates with additional information to consider when preparing their portfolio. The total combined portfolio content must not exceed 6 pages in length.
The Academic Promotions Curriculum Vitae (CV) is intended to provide Committees with an overview of a candidate’s scholarly career that has not already been provided in the application form.
The Head of School will provide a confidential report assessing the candidate’s performance in the key academic domains of teaching; research; and engagement and leadership to be completed on the pro forma.

Equity and Promotion Information Session - presented by Pro Vice-Chancellor Academic Excellence, Professor Jennifer Milam
We are committed to achieving equity in our promotions processes. This session focuses on encouraging and supporting colleagues who have experienced academic career disruption or other forms of disadvantage in the progression of their academic careers. The aim is to ensure equity in an inclusive promotion process through a focus on achievement relative to opportunity.

Library Workshops
The Library will organised a series of workshops to support researchers locate metrics for their publications in preparation for academic promotion applications. In due course, further information and registration details will be made available here.
The UPC will meet on Tuesday 22 and Wednesday 23 October 2024 to consider and determine applications for promotion to Level D academic and Level E academic.
